Clifton Springs: A lifelong NY Yankees and Frank Sinatra fan, and golf enthusiast Thomas C. “Tom” Gardner, passed away quietly on January 14, 2017. He will be remembered and missed as a cantankerous but loving husband, father and grandfather.  Tom, aka “Grumpa”, “Papa”, and “The Voice from the Couch”, is predeceased by his sons Michael and infant Joseph, and daughter in law Ann (Gray), and survived by his wife of 62 years, Lucy J (Nunn), and his children, Thomas, Karin Maines (Daniel), John, Ellen Montondo (Dale), and Kelly Erwin (John). He has nine grandchildren, Jacqueline, Ciara, Kendra, Benjamin, Michael, Lilianna, Kike, Keola, and Alden.

Born in Brooklyn, NY to Helen (Wilson) and Harold Gardner Sr., he is preceded by them in death with his brother Harold and sisters, Patricia (Gardner) Shattuck, Mary (Gardner) Metzinger and Suzette (Gardner) Kazmierczak.  Tom spent his early years in the Bronx, and moved with his family to Rochester, NY at the age of 10.  After he graduated from Aquinas Institute in 1949, Tom moved to New York City and lived with his uncle, Cyrenus McCook, who got him a position at the NY Life Insurance Company.  Tom joined the Naval Reserves in 1952, and subsequently active duty with the Navy, serving as a Naval Air Radio man.  During his time in the Navy, Tom found the love of his life, Lucy Nunn.  They were married on January 8, 1955.  Tom & Lucy lived in Williamson, NY, where they owned several businesses, including Gardner Electric which Tom managed for over 35 years.

Tom participated in the anatomical gift program at University of Rochester Medical Center.  A Mass of Intention will be offered on (Saturday) March 25th, 2017 at 11:00am at the Church of the Epiphany, Sodus, NY followed by a reception for family and friends from 12pm - 3pm at Young Sommer Winery, Williamson, NY.  

  In lieu of flowers, donations to Epilepsy Pralid Inc, 1650 South Ave, Suite 300 Rochester, NY 14620 or your local American Legion in his name would be welcome.
