Newark: Luis was called home to his Kingdom on (Sunday) October 22, 2017 at age 96.
Predeceased by infant daughter: Nereida Santiago; great granddaughter: Ashley Sue Henkel.
Luis was born on January 12, 1921 in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico, the son of the late Luis and Ines Murria Santiago. He came to the United States in the 1950's and made his home in Newark, NY. He was a hard worker and retired from Fold-Pak after 20 years and then continued to work at Breen's Bell's until age 88. He was a proud member of the Sons of the Legion Squadron 457, Phelps, NY for many years. He was an avid bowler for many years and a die-hard Yankees fan. Luis loved to have fun and lived life to its fullest.
Survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Julie Santiago, adored daughters: Maria (Carlos) Rodriguez, Ines Santiago and Peggy (Tony) Alvarado; grandchildren: Carlos, Marisol, and Anthony (Veronica) Rodriguez; Hector (Stephanie) and Ricky (Joann) Gonzalez; Amy (Craig) Henkel; Joe (Sue) and A.J (Missy) Alvarado; (19) great grandchildren; brother: Santos Santiago; sister in law: Lea (Roger) Lester; nieces: Debbie (Ron) Finewood; Dena (Arnie) Fisher; nephew: Mark Lester (Ray); great nieces: Ashley (Adam) Whalen, Kaytlynn (Daniel) Buyck and Andrea Condon; many extended family members and friends.
Calling hours will be held on (Thursday) October 26, 2017 from 4pm - 7pm at Young Funeral Home, Williamson, NY. Funeral service will take place on October 27, 2017 at 10am at the funeral home. Burial to follow service in East Newark Cemetery.
