I guess it's better late than never. Dave and I were great friends in the 60's. Appropriately, the last time my wife and I saw him was in 1970 when we visited my house on Port Bay and managed to lose all accounts of an evening of dining, drinking and boating. I also stopped and had lunch with him when I was back for Art Wilbert's 80th birthday in 2004. We kept in touch for a while, but I became very ill in 2008 and lost about 6 years of my life to aging effects of polio. I lost all track of most of my old friends during that time. Belated condolences to all his family and friends.

Thank you for your phone call Mike concerning the passing of your dad. We were all out hunting for the Thanksgiving weekend, something I'm sure your father would have encouraged us to do. We enjoyed working with him and recognized his talent and years of experience in the business. The Turcotte Family at Garwood Boats sends our heartfelt condolences to you and your family.

Dave Thompson was a memorable man. His wide smile, cheerful disposition, sense of humor, mannerisms, and “Dave-isms/expressions” were as unforgettable as he. My husband Mike and I have fun and numerous memories of visiting the Thompsons in Williamson as well as when he and his family visited the Omaha relatives. Always up for a good time, Dave liked to laugh, drink a beer or two and enjoy life. Both my husband and I have stories about being “over served” while in the company of our brother-in-law, Dave. Cathy usually used better judgement and left the nonsense to the rest of us. She’d just sit back amused as she’d watch her husband lead us into a bit of a temptation with usually headaches to follow the next day.

Let’s not forget the ”cannon” Dave made at the foundry to salute America– not your typical 4th of July fireworks for our Dave, oh contraire. Instead, it was a “cover your ears and hang onto your seats” kind of a acknowledgement to our forefathers!

Dave loved his family. Without a doubt, he did. He was so proud of his children and his granddaughters. Even as his health declined, he would share stories about the little girls, Eliza and Maeve, when we talked. He was generous and kind to Cathy and his children. I know stories of thoughtful surprises to come her way. Dave enjoyed Megan and Dan as they were both just the right fit for Mike and Jenny.

The Thompson family and the Peterson family will miss Dave. He was a friend to us for 40+ years and one of a kind.

May a band of angels greet you, dear Dave, as you crossover into “what’s next.” Our love to you all.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. We remember Dave always had a smile on his face and a great sense of humor. When we spent time with him there was never a dull moment. One thing that comes to mind when we think of Dave was "fire in the hole". All that knew him will know what I mean! He will be sadly missed. Our love and blessings go out to you Cathy and your beautiful family.

Cathy, Jen and Mike,
I was shocked to learn of your dear husband and father's passing. I am so sorry. My thoughts and love are with you. Love this smiling photo of him. He knew how much he was loved.
