Jose' "Tony" Antonio Alvarado, Sr. 

Newark:  Passed peacefully with his family by his side at Wayne County Nursing Home after a long battle with Dementia on December 4, 2017 at age 80.

Predeceased by his parents: Jose and Maria Alvarado; mother in law: Anna Lanse; father in law: Luis Santiago; granddaughter, Ashley Sue Henkel; sisters: Nilde (Jorge) Sanchez and Juanita Charles.

He was born the son of Jose' and Maria Gonzalez Alvarado in Salinas, Puerto Rico. Tony came to the United States in 1958 and proudly served our country in the United States Army.   Tony made his home in Newark, NY and found the love of his life, Peggy Lanse.  He was an avid softball player and a bowler for many years.  He was known to the community for his passion for detailing vehicles for everyone.  He will always be known for his notorious whistle as friends drove by his home. Tony could always be seen sipping on his coffee at Dunkin Donuts. Tony loved his family and truly loved being "Papa" to his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Peggy; children: Amy (Craig) Henkel, Joe (Sue), A.J. (Missy) and Joel (Cindy) Alvarado; grandchildren: Alyssa Henkel, Landon, Alayna, and Noland Alvarado; hermana: Daisy Gonzalez Rivera; sobrinas: Kharem; Linnette, and Brenda; sobrinos: Carlos, Jorge, and Jerry and many extended family members and special friends.

Calling hours will be held on (Thursday) December 7, 2017 from 4pm - 8pm at Young Funeral Home, 4025 Ridge Road, Williamson, NY.  Funeral service will take place on (Friday) December 8, 2017 at 10am at the funeral home.  Burial to follow the service at East Newark Cemetery.

The family would like to sincerely express their gratitude to all the staff at Wayne County Nursing Home for the dedicated care given to Tony.
