John C. Heurtley
Rochester: John C. Heurtley died March 2, 2023 while convalescing at the hospital.
He was born May 22, 1935, and grew up in Chappaqua NY. After graduating from Loomis School in 1953, John attended UCONN for a year before seeking the G.I. Bill. He then enlisted in the Army, reaching the rank of CPL while serving in Korea. Upon his return he attended the University of Rochester where he was Phi Beta Kappa, earning a BS in Physics, and PHD in Electrical Engineering. After considering full time teaching at the U of R, he joined work force at American Optical, and then Xerox Corp. in Webster. His career then blossomed taking him ultimately to Washington D.C .where he worked for the CIA, Air Force, and FAA. Retiring in 1995 he returned to western New York. A lover of history, math, and electricity he spent his years reading and growing his beloved library, solving complicated mathematics, and playing with his antique high voltage equipment. A follower of Bacchus, John loved sitting at his table, conversing on all subjects with family and friends.
He leaves 3 children, Richard Heurtley, Linda Steves (Henry), and Allen Heurtley. John was a proud grandfather to Ronni Steves, Jillian Steves (Bryan), William Heurtley, and Julia Heurtley.
In lieu of a funeral service, a gathering of friends and family is being planned.
