Chester M. VerDow
Williamson: Entered into peaceful rest on October 20, 2020 at age 97, at his home on the family farm where he was born, son of Sarah (Lucieer) and Myron VerDow.
A loving husband of 65 years to his predeceased wife, Arethea (Manktelow) VerDow.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Mabel VerDow and Isabelle Raymor of Ontario; in laws: Ellis DeLass, John Raymor and Lawrence Dickinson of Ontario, Ralph and Leona Lawrence of Williamson, and Velma (Manktelow) Emery of Marion, nephew: William Lawrence of Wiliamson.
Chester was an adoring father to daughters and son in law: Nancy (David) Elliott of Pultneyville and Jane VerDow of Rochester; proud grandfather to Matthew and Heather Elliott. He is also survived by his sisters: Viola DeLass and Beulah Dickinson of Ontario, and Argetha (Dean) Newcomb of Victor; brother in law: Gordon Emery of Marion; cousin: Alice (Lucieer) Morgan of Williamson; many extended family members & special friends. Chester leaves behind his church family of the First Baptist Church of Ontario where he was baptized in 1956, worshipped as the oldest member and served as a deacon, trustee, and sang in choir.
"Chet" was a third generation fruit grower in Williamson, certified welder, designer and builder of sprayer equipment for local farmers to improve safety and efficiency (1940's-1950's), and manager of the Williamson Agway and Orbaker Farm-Cider and Apple Packing (1970's). He was a devoted and caring friend to many sharing his love for fishing, woodworking, gardening (Rose Society), photography, Farmer's Markets of Fairport and Webster. He was a storyteller of local history and teacher to any and all about farming and fruit grafting.
Private interment will be held in Lake View Cemetery.
