Barbara Jean DeVey
ROCHESTER – April 30, 2018 Age 82 Pre-deceased by partner Arlene Schlipf; parents John and Marion (Snyder) DeVey; sister Margaret (Peggy) Bailey; brother Kenneth DeVey. Barb (BJ) is survived by her sister Mary (Richard) Almekinder; and several nieces and nephews.
Barb was born in Joy, New York and was a 1954 graduate of Sodus High School. During her childhood, she was the lead trumpet in the High School band and marched in parades around Wayne County. She also played trumpet for a church in Sodus Point. She loved playing horseshoes, softball, roller skating, going to the movies, playing 42 (dominos), ‘penny poker’, and smoking in the barn (before it mysteriously caught fire).
After graduation, Barb enlisted in the Army, serving in Georgia. After being discharged, she worked at the Mott’s Factory in Williamson and lived in Manchester with her partner Arlene Schlipf. During this period, Barb enjoyed playing softball as part of the Bayview Ed-Ettes, for whom she was a pitcher. She played in the New York State League and in various tournaments across New York State and Canada.
After a short stint with French’s Mustard, she started working at Eastman-Kodak. She moved to Gates, where she lived with Arlene until they retired in the mid-1990’s. They enjoyed their retirement in Greenacres, Florida. They spent their time traveling the country and enjoying their two Shelties.
Family and Friends may call Saturday, May 5th from 10:00am to 11:00am followed by the Funeral service at 11:00am. Interment: Lakeview Cemetery.
