Helen F. (nee Norris) Halldow

Williamson: Passed on peacefully on November 23, 2015.  Born in 1921, she was the last child of Sarah M. Norris and T.W. Norris of Rose, NY.  She was predeceased by seven siblings and three half-brothers.

Helen was born in Wayne County, NY and died in Wayne County, but her life was spent living and working around the world.  After training at Rochester Business Institute (RBI) in the early 1940’s, she began one of her most important careers that continued for the next 20 years: the wife of a US Army Officer.  She provided her military family strength and grace until her husband retired from the military in 1960.

Helen used her RBI skills in so many ways working with private and government agencies each place she lived.  She had an outstanding work ethic and received much high praise from her employers.

In 1960, after her husband’s retirement from the military, she moved to Williamson, NY where they purchased land and began a successful pet boarding business, Dun Travlin’ Ranch.  That was a second career for her, which was followed by a third concurrent career.  When her husband became active in town and county political offices, she attended meetings and took excellent committee notes using her RBI business skills once again.

Helen loved to read, to write her memories, play Scrabble, and do crossword puzzles.  She remained alert, active, and politically aware, until her last morning.

She was the beloved wife of the late (Ret) US Army Major Harry Russell Halldow for over 60 years.  She is survived by three children: Georgia (Roger) Printup, Harry Ronald Halldow and Deborah Halldow; Grandchildren: Todd and David (Phalla) Clicquennoi; Justin (Holly) Stevenson and Kristina Stevenson; Deana (Brian) Orr; Great-grandchildren: Zachary and Madeline Clicquennoi, Stephanie Stevenson, Evan Clicquennoi-Kong, Aleya and Faith Helen Orr.

No services are planned at this time.  At a later date, her ashes will be placed next to her husband’s at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Humane Society of Wayne County, New York, 1475 County House Road, Lyons, NY 14489.
